Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much would something like “this” cost? (This = your project). A. It depends -- the custom builder’s world is full of possibilities! Determining methodology depends on a lot of criteria including usage, quantities needed, expected durability, building code requirements – even the size of the door it needs to fit through. Check out the Checklist to get an idea of what information is important when we’re pricing your project. Q. How do I know that it’s going to look right / work right / be right? A. There is definitely an element of trust involved when selecting a fabrication shop -- especially when it involves a key visual feature in an environment, a trademark or corporate image for a trade show, or an important dramatic moment in a production. Our experience, the quality of the work, and the caliber of the clients and projects is the best proof that we can offer. We encourage you to look at the photos and review the client list, and if you have any questions or want to see more examples from our portfolio, give us a call. Q. If I give you a budget, can we work towards it? A. Yes. As mentioned above, the custom builder’s world is full of possibility. Sometimes prioritizing requirements can be helpful. For instance, let’s say you’ve requested a custom furniture piece that requires metal framing. To keep it lightweight we might recommend aluminum but if you’re not worried about it being heavy, going to steel (a cheaper material) may be a cost-effective solution. Q. Do you do rentals? A. No. But we are considering it, given the number of inquiries we get. Is there something you have a hard time finding? Let us know what you think. Contact Us If you can’t find That Perfect Thing and are interested in having it custom-built, or you have found it and it needs refurbishing, please let us know if we can help you out. Q. Do you do costumes? A. Yes and no. In the entertainment world, we often work with in conjunction with costume shops and wardrobe departments to provide components of costumes, like armour, weapons, special accessories (a walking cane, for example), and puppets that are worn on the body and manipulated by the actor. As a general rule, we don’t provide anything that touches an actor’s skin. The exception to this rule is masks that require expertise like sculpting, molding and casting. However, we do provide historical and contemporary costumes that are being used for display, on a mannequin in an exhibit or as set dressing in an environment. |
