Project: Hudson’s Bay Company Heritage Galleries, Victoria BC and Montreal

Owner:
Hudson’s Bay Company

Design: Lord Cultural ( Toronto)

Client: Mystus Interactus ( Toronto)

Profile: Both the Victoria and Montreal exhibits had scenes, or vignettes, telling the story of HBC’s history. It was really important that the figures in these scenes look as realistic and human as possible.

We took hand and head casts of real people, poured them in plaster, then made a mold of the plaster and cast them in fiberglass. The heads and hands were attached to mannequin bodies then finished with paint, styled wigs, eyeballs and costumes (provided by HBC).

The results were exactly right – each character has its own personality. The client was so pleased after the first exhibit, their own people volunteered to have their hands and heads cast for the second exhibit!
